I am a cancer survivor, no, a thriver, who was challenged by a cancer journey but flourished through patience and perseverance with emotional, physical, and mental strength. My family, friends, and the cancer community held me in their embrace providing inspiration, motivation, and support. To give back I have participated in many fundraising events in an effort to support cancer patient care and research. Funding is crucial to create innovative practices, diagnostic tools, and treatment protocols with the ultimate goal of eradicating cancer.
Those affected by cancer require access, knowledge, and support which is the mission of the Pacific Cancer Foundation. Paddle for Life is a fundraising event for this organization.
Paddle for Life is a voyage undertaken by over 450 cancer survivors and supporters in 25 outrigger canoes. This year on October 12 the voyage will begin in Lahaina, Maui, across the 'Au'au channel to Manele Bay, Lana'i, where the participants will camp overnight. This 36-mile roundtrip is not to be taken lightly!
It has been my dream for some time to participate in this voyage. I initially heard about it when visiting Maui several years ago and paddling with Mana'olana Pink Paddlers, a cancer survivor and supporters outrigger canoe group. And I literally just found out on October 6 that my dream will come true! I will be participating with a cancer survivor team called the Superheros! Just imagine our team paddling across the ocean with our Superhero capes fluttering in the wind inspiring and motivating us to reach our destination! I have never done anything like this but am so excited!
To support this effort, I ask, if you can, to donate no later than October 13, the end of the voyage.
Wish me luck,
Love and hugs
Linda
